A survey of the history and culture of Western Europe from the dissolution of the Western Roman Empire to the year 1000. This period of change and transformation saw the settlement of migrating peoples in the former provinces of the Western Roman Empire and the emergence of new states and new societies. This course aims to introduce students to the political, social, cultural, and demographic changes that laid the foundations of modern Europe. For History majors and minors, this is designated a pre-1700 course.
