The history of the rise of National Socialism and the Nazi regime in Germany from 1933 to 1945. The course considers the position of Nazism in German History, the heritage of German colonialism and the First World War, the reasons for the failures of German democracy, and the nature of the Nazi dictatorship: the role of Hitler, Nazi state and society, persecution, consent and resistance. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a Modern European history course.
