Description
Seminar associated with a service-learning experience within a community based, local social service agency, school setting, or social welfare organization. Students spend a minimum of 50 hours during the fall semester (approximately 5 hours per week) in the service-learning setting. Emphasis is placed on linking social work values, ethics, and beginning engagement skills with professional roles and boundaries in social work. Students will learn self-reflection, development of the professional self, connecting social justice values, cultural competency, and cultural humility to service provision in a community context. Note: A grade of B or higher is required for students to be eligible to enter a field placement (SWK 454).This course may be repeated once, but not for credit.
